My textile practice revolves around translating the experience of visiting spaces such as historic buildings, museums and galleries into abstract screen printed, stitched or three-dimensional objects. Open door shapes, often repeated in the printed textiles, represent thresholds that are symbolic transitional spaces giving tantalising glimpses of what may lie beyond. I will often use reflections of movement, captured in mirrors and windows to express the presence of visitors in a space and embed this in the design work. Through a process of collaging, photography and sketching I translate these spaces and experiences into surface design and pattern.
