As a handweaver I am fascinated by the transformation of thread into cloth. I work with carefully selected materials to make homewares and art to treasure. Tactility is important to me and I pay attention to the surface and the structure of the cloth I make, its drape and weight, how it feels, as well as how it looks.
My aesthetic is simple and timeless and I often use neutrals and muted colour palettes. I am inspired by the natural and the built environment as well as by the yarns themselves, their individual characteristics inform my designs as I work.
In contrast with the traditional patterns seen in my homewares, my artwork features lace structures and passementerie techniques. I hand-spin very fine silk threads into cords before carefully placing each one in the narrow warps. The traditional patterns of the now endangered craft are reinterpreted and enlarged to show the intricate pathways of each cord in pieces which are both familiar and intriguing.
